Highly Sensitive People and Empaths often have a deep and beautiful kindship/connection with animals; they are drawn to being around them and caring for and about them, naturally attuned to how they feel and their needs. Seeing or knowing of animals’ suffering is excruciating!
I have had the honour and delight of sharing my heart, home with many canine companions, which provides a deep joy space in me that I am endlessly grateful for! Adopting Rescue Dogs adds many layers (and possibly complexity) to creating energetic harmony for all. Sadly, in November (2021), we had to say goodbye to Nicky, our Whippet/Greyhound (from Ireland). I had not been without a dog in my life for 20 years.
Meeting ‘Wild’ Willow
In January, I saw a picture of a lovely one-year-old Lab/Husky mix from a rescue group in Saskatchewan (Canada) that needed a home. I inquired about her and spoke to the foster mom, and all sounded good!
At 9:30 pm on Jan 14th, the night of My son’s 13th birthday, I waited in the Safeway parking lot for the rescue van to arrive. My son asked me to send a picture of her as soon as I had her (he was with his dad until the next morning).
As I walked up to the van filled to the brim with rescue dogs and cats, the rescue founder said, “Who are you picking up? I said, Willow.
My first thought was she was smaller in person than I thought she was. I was passed the leash with her on the other end and looked down at her, and in that instant, she masterfully pulled her head out of a loose collar…..oh oh!
Just like that, she was gone!
She bolted across a busy street, and we could not see her anymore! I could not believe this was happening! Instead of sending a picture to my son, I had to call and say she was gone…..one of the most excruciating moments of my life!
I searched and searched. 2.5 hours later, she was found by two Earth Angels. They came to help search for her after posting about her disappearance on a local dog Facebook group! Just moments before their phone call confirming that they had found her, I asked God for a miracle! I cried with delight and relief.
Willow and I headed home (a place and a meaning and a feeling that I realized she was not very familiar with), and when we arrived, she would not come out of the car. She was frozen/picnicked. She had no idea who I was and what was happening to her. The journey had begun.
What I noticed about her in the coming days, she:
- just wanted to be outside and escape the yard.
- was wary of people and, at the same time, loved them.
- was not familiar with leash walking, and she fiercely did not desire to be introduced to it! She wanted to be free and unrestricted (and I can’t say that I blame her)!
- put everything in her mouth; her favourite was pencils, chords, and she seemed certain that Kleenex was food. Nothing was safe from her mouth, including the baseboards. We even ended up at the emergency vet once.
- acted crazy around other dogs. We were not sure if it was leash aggression or overexcitement.
- was VERY itchy and would scratch and bite herself to create some bald patches.
Pranic Healing, Supplements and Healthy Food
As an Empath, creating energetic harmony in my surroundings and within myself is crucially important. The Greyhound/Whippet energy that I was used to in the home was vastly different from that of a Tasmanian Devil Sled Dog (how Willow felt to me initially). We were both experiencing a lot of stress and overwhelm by our new situations.
I did a Pranic Healing scan on her chakras and organs to see what was happening in her emotional and physical body. What I noticed from the scan mirrored what I observed in person. She was extremely stressed as the residue in her adrenal glands and solar plexus showed. Her sex chakra was imbalanced likely because she had just been spayed.
It is incredible and invaluable to me how Pranic Healing acts as an energetic map and view of who we are, how we are and where we are!
Over the coming weeks, I worked on those areas a few times to clear up the remaining residue (and also on my solar plexus and adrenals!) Her liver was very congested, which correlates to her compulsive itching/biting herself, which also seemed to be related to frustration/anger at not knowing what to do. E.g. being asked to walk (nicely) on a leash, she would stop and scratch.
I did some muscle testing on her and noticed that chicken and beef were unsuitable for her body, so we altered that I got her on raw food and some supplements. This is an area which I know a lot about as I created Tail Blazers – a Health Food Store for Dogs and Cats, in 2000 and spent 20 years helping people help their companions in that way.
‘Wild’ Willow VS ‘Restricted’ Tamara
I have been learning a lot from her (about her and myself)! For a sensitive person, when energies around us are not like ours or are too much for us, it can create irritation or overwhelm (and for me, the need to withdraw to try and find internal balance.
Her ‘wild’ and ‘chaotic’ nature created friction, unease and frustration in my restricted (conditioned) nature. I felt that I could not be myself and maintain inner energetic balance and do what I needed (LOTS of hikes in nature) for balance and happiness because she was ‘out of control’. I felt so frustrated! I am sure she felt like she could not be her ‘wild’, uninhibited self with me. So we were at odds energetically, and I wondered if I had made a mistake.
I did EFT (‘Tapping’) on the MANY emotions, internal stress, and difficulties that presented themselves.
The BIG Lessons I Have learned?
The biggest soul-satisfying thing that has unfolded is learning how to communicate and BE ourselves with one another and respect the other as we are. A kind of melding into creating energetic harmony with one another. It’s a beautiful thing!
She teaches me to lighten up, laugh, play more, and look at places where my wild side might want/need to express. I am teaching/showing her what it’s like to have someone deeply care about you and want you to be yourself, well, happy, fulfilled, free, and take you on all kinds of excursions and adventures. There are just some boundaries and limitations that need to be in place for this to happen. She seems ok with that now.
Creating Energetic Harmony with Willow!
The biggest, most exciting thing for me is we have gone on some incredible hikes the last few days!! She:
- no longer wants to escape the yard at all cost!
- did not know how to play and interact with balls or toys. Now, she runs to get them and brings them back!
- can be (mostly) trusted in the house not to eat, chew or destroy everything.
- has warmed up to people very quickly.
- he is learning (still very much in progress) how to be around dogs calmly!
My energy is balanced with her, and her energy is balanced with me and my son. I can now fully see and celebrate her beautiful spirit (she actually smiles), have gone from thinking I made a huge mistake to knowing that she is imperfectly perfect for imperfect us! 🙂
It’s been a lot of work, stress and effort, but ahhhhh, it feels GOOD to be at this place!
How can Pranic Healing and EFT Help You and Your Pup(s)?
When we calm, settle and resolve our stress, fear and trauma energy through energy healing (Pranic Healing and EFT in this case ) and we do the same with them and provide them with a safe, stable, patient, loving home, etc. with boundaries its possible to find energetic harmony and mutual acceptance of and with one another. This works with the people in our lives too.
Doing EFT (or ‘Tapping’) on all of my overwhelm and feelings that her ‘wildness’ stirred up was essential and Pranic Healing for my nervous system and regular pranic healing on her and the two surrogate tapping sessions.
